Hi,

I try to install pfSense on a 19" 1HE-System with LCD-Display. Inside
the case is a SUPERMICRO P8SCT Mainboard
(http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm) with
a Intel Celeron 345J (3.06GHz) CPU, 512MB DDR2-RAM, 2× S-ATA 40GB.

If I try to boot from the Live-CD through a USB-CD-Drive I get this message:
--- snip ---
Boot from CD...
CD Loader 1.2

[...]

BTX Loader 1.0 BTX Version 1.01

[...]
[some adresses/numbers]

BTX halted
--- snap ---

What can I do to install pfSense on that system?

Regards
Bastian

With my USB DVD-Drive it is not possible to run pfSense. If I connect to
the IDE-Port it works.

But it seems that the LAN-Chipset (Broadcom BCM5721) is not supported. :-(

Is this so or I'm to stupid to configure the LAN interfaces?

Bastian

It's not listed by the bge man page, and hence not that page, but that
card is supported in 5.4+, including 6.0. I also see dmesg output (from
google) on 6.0 with that chipset. Should be detected just fine. Is it
detecting *any* NIC's? What about BIOS settings, is plug and play disabled?

But it seems that the LAN-Chipset (Broadcom BCM5721) is not
supported. :-(
the freebsd sources for at least 5.4 onward identify it as a known
chipset in the if_bge.c file. Are you /sure/ it is that chipset?

It shows up as identified on my Dell PE800 server running FreeBSD 5.4:

bge0: <Broadcom BCM5721 Gigabit Ethernet, ASIC rev. 0x4001> mem
0xdfaf0000-0xdfafffff irq 18 at device 0.0 on pci5

The entries in if_bge.c were create based on debugging info I sent to
the developers around december. The chipset is identified as the
5721 based on the tech specs posted by dell, so there is a chance
that the identification is not really for the 5721. i haven't poked
inside the box to verify the chip ID numbers.

I also haven't booted pfsense on this box so I can't verify that aspect.
